QEC Introduction:
QEC is established under the umbrella of QAA of JSMU- HEC to enhance, maintain and monitor quality of medical and dental education. In JMDC, the QEC has been established in 2018
Vision
Our vision is to endeavor and employ all the efforts to raise the standard of education at Jinnah Medical & Dental College (JMDC) at par with the international standards, so as to acquire a place in the ranking of esteemed and renowned institutions of Pakistan and abroad being dedicated to teaching, learning and research. Furthermore to develop a viable and sustainable mechanism of Quality Assurance in medical and dental education in Pakistan to meet the rising challenges of health related issues of the country.
Mission
- To improve existing quality of medical and dental education.
- To explore and expand areas of education in the fields of Medicine and dentistry.
- To ensure that systematic quality research is carried out in each constituent unit.
- To continuously enhance the quality of education in all departments according to the requirements and satisfaction of its students, their prospective employers, and all relevant stakeholders.
- To encourage the system by provision of training, guidance and resources to follow the path of self-assessment of program and resources.
Aims
The major aim to establish QEC at JMDC is to raise the standard of medical and dental education by applying the procedure of self-assessment and by getting the feedback from students, graduates, postgraduates and employers. This data will be analyzed and corrective action measures would be adopted whenever and where ever deemed essential.
Objectives:
- To monitor the ongoing quality move in the college.
- To meet the challenges of global compatibility in medical and dental education.
- To develop a viable and sustainable mechanism of quality assurance in medical and dental education sector of the country.
- To produce manpower that could serve the community in an efficient, effective, dedicated manner and with honesty.
Specific QEC Aims:
Quality Promotion:
The development of a program of activities to institutionalize a
quality culture in medical and dental education and a commitment to continuous quality
improvement
Capacity Development:
The development and implementation of initiatives to build and strengthen the capacity for high quality provision at institutional, learning program and
individual levels.
Faculty Assessment:
Measurement of the expected outcome/performance from individual faculty member through standard internationally evaluated and tested procedures after having provided the requisite teaching and research infrastructure and facilities.
Departmental Reviews:
Measurement of the performance of each academic
department through conducting annual review based on the standard parameters set for this
purpose.
Accreditation:
Regular assessment and review of the Jinnah medical and dental college departments in order to assure the quality of the teaching staff and the teaching and training provisions provided to the students.
Functions & Responsibilities
- To promote public confidence in the quality & standards of award of degrees.
- To enhanced and safeguarded the quality & standards of teaching, training and research.
- To review the academic affiliations with other institutions for effective management of standards and quality of programs.
- To define clear standards as reference for reviews to be carried out.
- To help the employer regarding their expectations from the candidates.
- To develop qualifications framework by setting out the attributes and abilities for holder of qualification i.e. Bachelor’s of medicine and dentistry etc.
- To develop program specifications through set standards of information for students to acquire knowledge, ability to understand and develop skills in a specific program.
- To develop quality assurance processes and methods of evaluation for quality provision and maintenance of standard of awards.
- To foster curriculum, subject and faculty development along with research and other academic activities.
- To ensure that the college quality assurance procedures are designed to fit in with the arrangements in place nationally
- To maintain and improve the quality of medical and dental education nationally and at par with international standards.
- To facilitate the creation of a learner-centric environment to impart quality education.
- To encourage faculty training for enhancing their knowledge and teaching skill for effective teaching
- To gather feedback from students, parents and faculty in order to take remedial measures to maintain quality.
- To propose quality parameters and suggest means of achieving those for the overall quality development of the institute.
- To develop and apply quality benchmarks/parameters for various academic and administrative activities of the institution.
- To disseminate information on various quality requirements of medical and dental education.
- To act as a nodal agency of the Institution for coordinating quality-related activities, including adoption and dissemination of best practices.
- To develop and maintain institutional database through MIS for the purpose of maintaining /enhancing the institutional quality.
- To facilitate development of Quality Culture in the institution.
- To ensure that recommendations emerging from internal, reviews are being addressed.
- To document the steps taken and process implemented, leading to quality enhancement.
- To review the proceedings of various committees, boards and departments to identify the quality issues in teaching, learning, evaluation and research and to facilitate its discussion in relevant bodies for quality enhancement.
QEC-TORs:
- The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) established in JMDC will be headed by a Professor.
- The status of QEC head will be equivalent to Director and reporting authority for this position will be Principal of the college.
- The QEC head will be the correspondent with the outside bodies and responsible for Internal Academics Audit as well.
- Quality Assurance Authority established at JSMU aligned with Higher Education Commission will regulate the Quality Enhancement Cell.
- QEC will be responsible for promoting public confidence that the quality and standards of the award of degrees are enhanced and safeguarded.
- QEC will be responsible for the review of quality standards and the quality of teaching, learning and research in each subject area.
- QEC will be responsible for the review of academic affiliations with other institutions in terms of effective management of standards and quality of programs.
- QEC will be responsible for defining clear and explicit standards as points of reference to the reviews to be carried out.
- QEC will help the employees to know as to what they could expect from candidates.
- QEC will be responsible to develop qualifications framework by setting out the attributes and abilities that can be expected from the holder of a qualification, i.e. MBBS, BDS and FCPS candidates.
- QEC will be responsible to develop program specifications. These are standard set of information clarifying what knowledge, understanding, skills and other attributes a student will have developed on successfully completing a specific program.
- QEC will be responsible to develop quality assurance processes and methods of evaluation to affirm that the quality of provision and the standard of awards are being maintained
- QEC will foster curriculum, subject and faculty development, together with research and other academic activities.
- QEC will be responsible to ensure that the college quality assurance procedures are designed to fit in with the arrangements in place nationally for maintaining and improving the quality of medical and dental education.
